Is It September 11, 2009 Already

Where does the time go? I thought I could post something everyday but am not as dedicated as I thought I would be. Our family had a great Labor Day weekend. Kristen came down Sunday and stayed until Monday. We celebrated Layla's 7th birthday Sunday. Her birthday is actually tomorrow, September 12.

Monday we went to Connie and Jim's in Jackson for the Phillips Reunion. We had a wonderful time. Those attending were:
Daddy
Connie and Jim
Kristina and Brian
David and Kim
Kara and Andy (Roof)
Jeremy and Linda
Sadie, Lexie, and Zena
Carolyn and Jack
Rob and Lisa
Erin and Joey
Jeannie and Jason
Alexie and Ian
Jeremy and Kelli
Ivan
After the reunion David took Jack and me and Ivan for a ride around Lake Jackson on his new pontoon boat. After that Jack and I and Ivan stopped by Doris's house and visited. Doris's family, Alice and Tommy, and Edie plus others were there. We had a really nice time.
No sewing done this weekend. I did do the 5K Heart Walk Saturday and paid dearly for that. Came home, took two aspirins, a shower, then took a nap. Jack and I went to Jackson Saturday evening for Aunt Bonnie's 65th birthday party. We had a nice time at Dave and Karen's. They have such a beautiful home.

Sunday I slept late, read the newspaper, went to Waffle House, the library, then to Kroger's. Later, Jack and I went to Jeannie and Jason's to pick-up Jason's work time sheet that needed to be faxed to his company. We then took stuff to my new office. Jack helped me file the service reports back into the file cabinets. I'm sure they would have stayed in boxes for months if Jack hadn't helped me.

I spent some time working on the sewing room. Got a little more things put away.

Finished shortening the pants for Olivia. Couldn't find Layla's pants. I think maybe she took them back home. She loved the pants but they were so tight on her. I need to buy her a larger size.

Sunday we took our PC to Dayton to give to Lori. Her computer is shot and not dependable. Because we have the laptops we don't use the PC anymore, plus it freed up some space in the sewing room.

Thursday, August 13, 2009

I worked late today and was too tired to do anything when I got home. At least it will soon be the weekend. I need to clean downstairs but I WILL get some sewing done. I need to start eliminating some of the things on my to do list.

Yesterday Lori and Doug came in from Dayton and spent the evening with us. Of course I did not do anything after I fixed dinner. Lori and I visited while the guys watched the Reds game. Fortunately, the Reds won so that made Doug, Rob, and Jack happy.

Tonight I had planned on working in the sewing room but quickly ran out of energy. On the way home from work I stopped at Groveport's Town Hall to meet a lady there who wanted me to teach a beginning quilt class in October. I agreed. Now I just need to come up with a simple pattern that people can cut out and sew in one day.

I am definitely sleep deprived. Stayed up until 2 am Sunday night/Monday morning then couldn't sleep when I got back to the room (we spent the night in Cincinnati). Monday night I stayed up until 11 pm and last night it was after midnight before I got to bed. Tonight it is early to bed.

Making a Teeny Dent

Well, I spent yesterday afternoon wringing my hands and trying to decide where to start. In the case of the mess I am dealing with it is best to just go in. I sorted a little of the material and put some things away. I still can't work with the mess. For sure, when Jack retires, our first chore will be to clean the basement and then move some of the seldom used sewing stuff down there. I have several shelving units that I can put stuff on and still have it accessible when I need it.

Last night Jack and I went to Cincinnati. We had a free hotel room which included breakfast. Needless to say we made use of that. It was a nice mini-vacation. We drove back through Dayton because I was trying to find a 1/4" presser foot for my Singer sewing machine. Didn't find it in Dayton. We went on to Yellowsprings so we could hassle Doug and eat at Peaches. In spite of driving through some nasty rain we had a great time.

Now it is back to the real world.

Started the Reorganization - Took Pictures

The sewing room is hopeless. I took pictures of the room so everyone can see what I am facing. I don't know where to start. Baby steps... The room is just to small for all of my sewing supplies. I think I need to move some of the stuff to the basement.

I am hoping after September 30 (Jack's retirement), that with his help we can get the house cleaned really well. We have so much stuff that we need to toss. When we moved here I said I would never let so much stuff accumulate but it happened anyway. Where does it come from?

Oh well, I am not going to get much done today. When Jack gets home we are going to Cincinnati to spend the night. We have a free hotel room. Can't let that pass.

Procrastinating

I call myself a quilter but am I? I use any excuse to avoid the sewing room. Right now it is such a mess I can’t find anything. My goal today was to straighten it up and put everything in its place. Didn’t happen! Tomorrow I absolutely must get it done. I have three different quilt patterns I am working on plus a crib quilt that I need to finish the quilting on; not to mention several receiving blankets I have ready to serge the edges for my soon-to-be great grandson.

Several weeks ago I started a blouse and it is still half finished. I really need some new tops so it would be a smart thing to get it done.

Maybe, if I make a list of projects that need completed and keep track of my progress on this site, maybe, just maybe, I can get them finished in the near future. Right now I have the following things that I need to complete:
1. Cleaning and organizing the sewing room (until that is done I can’t even get to the sewing machine).
2. Finish the receiving blankets (that baby will be here in no time at all).
3. Finish the crib blanket for my 4 month old grandson, Ian.
4. Finish the blouse (fortunately it can be worn any season of the year).
5. Finish the blocks and assemble the three quilts I am concurrently working on.
6. AND, a biggy – shorten the pants and jeans I bought for Olivia and Layla (afterall it isn’t fair that pants aren’t made short enough for them and a girl can’t spend her life wearing all of her pant cuffs rolled up).
7. ALSO, can’t forget, my wonderful dil’s beautiful wedding dress which needs the hem repaired so she can have the dress cleaned and stored away ( the hem got torn during the reception last June (that is June of '08).
8. I have three quilt tops that I am working on for the James Stitching Sisters besides the three I am doing for myself. The Stitching Sisters have given away more than 2000 quilts in the past 4 years to breast cancer patients as they begin their treatment. I am a recipient of such a quilt. I know how much it means to receive on of those quilts.

The list is even longer than I thought it would be and I probably forgot some things that are just waiting to be done. I will tackle this list and add to it if necessary.
Wish me luck!
